IMPROPER DOSE NO. 5
EXT. IMPROPER WALLS - EVENING
In the back of Improper Walls. Urtė Špeirokaitė and Justina Špeirokaitė are sitting on the couch. Light is dimmed. Two glasses of wine on the coffee table. Silence. Twenty seconds into the scene a conversation starts.
URTĖ
Justina stands up, goes to their small bar, finds a bottle of red wine, bings it to the coffee table, pours to both, and sits back on the couch.

JUSTINA
Both look at each other, Smile and cheer their glasses.
JUSTINA

Both stand up, turn off the lights and leave. The couch and unwashed glass of wine are now alone, waiting for everyone to come back the next day.
FADE TO BLACK
“The imaginative nature of art enables us to move from the static here and now to transcend both time and location, and envision ourselves in new ways.” (Cheri Sterman)
Art functions as representation - not as a “reflection” of individual or collective identity but as a vital player in shaping the identity of its maker, subject, and audience. That means an exhibition functions as a narrative “written” by curatorial choices, a narrative that also shapes identity. And we keep on shaping and reshaping our identities, as our experiences change, as we keep making diverse curatorial choices.
In this special edition dedicated to our 6th anniversary, we decided to focus on identities. Taking our own identities into account as being a measure of our personal and collective growth, we spoke with artists, musicians, a fashion designer and a philosopher about their takes on it.

Just before you dive into reading our newest edition, we would like to thank you all who was, is and will become part of our family. We are creating our biggest art work - life, together. And maybe together we could make Carmen Salas dream come true: “In my dream, the traditional exhibition spaces and art objects (material objects) no longer exist, and artists, cultural agents and creative practitioners collaborate with citizens, communities and professionals from other sectors (scientists, farmers and politicians) to design better systems and to co-create activities and programmes that encourage creativity and bring about social change.”
Happy next n years of self-exploration and identifying who we are through what we do together!
Lots of love
