Improper Sessions

Improper Sessions

Improper Sessions is a platform for musicians to present their music to the audience of Improper Walls and Vienna. Within the space of an existing exhibition, musicians will perform live in front of a small audience, transforming the room for an evening, creating an audio-visual experience.

Through this project, Improper Walls seeks to bring more live music to Vienna’s 15th district, connecting open-minded, ambitious musicians, fostering transdisciplinary collaboration and a supportive community within Vienna’s music scene.

Each performance is professionally filmed, allowing for live streaming, as well as a final music video that is edited and produced by our team for promoting the musician/band and exhibition in which they performed after the concert has ended.

An interview is conducted with each musician shortly before the performance in our tiny sound booth (i.e. beautiful WC). This can be meaningful, strange or nonsensical. The audio is used in snippets within the final music video, the rest transcribed and presented in our online magazine: Improper Dose.

Improper Walls provides basic sound equipment, transport, a sound engineer, a camera crew, delicious social media promotion and payment. We hope to start an open dialogue about how musicians can and should be supported and compensated for their time.

Improper Sessions is a continuation of a successful series completed in 2021 that will surely evolve as time and artist feedback perfects it. We’re excited to see where it takes us!
