-Interview with Leni & Cher from KOTD by Ale Zapata

A: Who is behind Kids of the Diaspora??

Leni introduced it to the world in 2016. A collection of various people from different backgrounds worked on the project ever since.
At the moment Cherrelle is working with her on several projects. Anybody who is interested in collaborating is welcome to do so. ( Just reach out to us hi@kidsofthediaspora.com)

A:What are your goals and motivations?

We have a strong message that we like to send throughout the world: Deconstruct the concept of minorities.
At this point, we would like to quote Lou Reed who said „I think it’s important that people don’t feel alone“ Especially when you are a kotd and have a different background disconnected from where the majority of people look like you. it can easily happen that you feel some kind of lonely. through poetry we would like to send messages to these people to remind them that they are not the only ones. We share a feeling.

A: How are you dealing with the current social distance situation?

The situation made us reflect on everything that happened the last years and we are completely grateful and motivated to continue our work. We believe that creating this peaceful place for people virtually, philosophically and spiritually is much more important than ever. We came to the point to lift our message on a new level: No matter what crosses our way, nothing can cross our spirit.

A: Do you consider yourselves activists?

We do not consider ourselves activists. We are more so a team of creatives, devoting ourselves to a higher purporse which is empowering people who consider themselves KIDS OF THE DIASPORA.
This gives us the freedom to create all kinds of things: Poems, fashion, videos and let’s see what the future brings.
