TONY RENAISSANCE

I saw them on an art/music festival festival and couldn’t resist to fall in love with their radical and melancholic softness .

I focus my work on the experimentation with sound, images, text, performance and the human body and on creating visibility for queer and contra-normative identities.
My work is multimedia based and is dealing with concepts of gender, identity and queerness, human bodies and sexuality. I am using contrasting elements such as raw, heavy, industrial matters as opposed to soft, campy, organic materials and aesthetics, using photography, sculpture, installations and performance. Continuatively I am expanding these concepts through language and sound.

At the moment my main focus lies on my solo music project Tony Renaissance and its upcoming video and EP releases. With Tony Renaissance I do experimental sound work with vocal effects and electronics based on the transformative qualities of sound and images and the imagination of alternative realities and dreamscapes.
In the last months I have been collaborating with exciting artists for the release of my EP Dreamreality. With musician Florian Tremmel I worked on the mixing and mastering of my EP, visual artist Lena Kuzmich produced a video for my first single Lost Islands, graphic designer and artist Gergo Kovacs created the cover art for my EP, Magdalena Fischer did the photography for the cover, artist Ana Paula F shot my PR pictures, writer Sophie Strohmeier wrote a PR text and artist and musician Rachel de la Torre did the logo for my label Tender Matter.

With my label I want to expand towards releasing compilations of artists that participated and will still participate in The Future, an event series run by Melissa Antunes de Menezes and me. The Future is focused on the expansion of the Viennese diy electronic music scene highlighting queer local and international artists.

The time in quarantine has been fruitful for me personally since I was able to focus on my current project. However, like other artists I also felt the pressure to produce and the precarity of the situation. Cultural and artistic scenes have been heavily affected by the current crisis which is resulting in the search for alternatives online that were not explored before. Venues, cultural projects and artists are all struggling together financially at this point and they are trying to find solutions to survive and create exciting platforms for visibility. With The Future we’re looking into the possibility of online formats to keep our community strong, even online. We like to imagine a Vienna where its various communities focus more on exchange, collaboration and support.

Tony Renaissance released their video LOST ISLANDS the 30th of April, produced by Lena Kuzmich. Check this liquid beauty out…
