Living in Vienna and you haven’t heard the crazy-amazing, soothing, ooo la la vocals of Ines Kolleritsch? Folks, have a listen.

- Interview with Viennese based musician/singer-songwriter Ines Kolleritsch, by Elizabeth Spouse (Development Coordinator at Improper Walls)

E: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you would describe your music?

I’m a freelance musician/singer-songwriter based in Vienna and actually from the south of Austria. I’ve been writing my own music from the age of fifteen and trying to make a living out of it only for a little more than a year. After studying jazz-vocals in Graz (AT) and having tons of side jobs for a couple of years I quit my studies and tried to survive with “only” creating music, playing shows and doing some private vocal classes from time to time. My music nowadays moves between soulful, R’n’Bish, singer-songwriter vibes with a jazzy touch and is very much influenced by loads of current singer-songwriters I adore.

E:  What are you working on now and how has the current situation affected you?

For about one year now I’m constantly composing with the closest person in my life, drummer and songwriter Julian Berann, with whom I created the duo project “Gazelle & the Bear”. We are now working on our second single release, which will drop on May 1st, and have become quite a good team in composing and creating music together.

The current situation has affected me in that all concerts, which I would have gained my main income from, got cancelled until June (at least) so it might get a bit tricky financially. Besides that, as for most people, probably, I miss being around people, friends and family a lot and miss giving concerts and having a direct response from the audience, maybe a smile, laughter, applause or a calming, respectful silence when I’m playing music.

E: Is there anything you are appreciating about this time?

Besides appreciating that I have a home, endless food and water supply and that I can always get financial support from my family and friends if surviving could somehow get tricky, I am learning how to appreciate time itself. Also, finally doing things I didn’t take enough time for or at all like caring for my body and my mind, doing yoga, cooking, playing Scrabble and “Das Verrückte Labyrinth”, practising vocals and a bit of piano - but mostly just trying to listen to what my body and emotions tell me and allowing everything to be there.

E: What is the best way to support you and local musicians right now?

Buying their music online or asking for a physical copy to be sent via mail, listening, streaming and sharing their music and showing them some love by maybe just leaving a nice message.

E: Where can we find your music and what should we look out for next?

My music is to be found on any streaming platforms via the projects “Gazelle & the Bear”, “Lucid Kid”, “Maravica” or “Amadeus Vúlkan”, listed here from current project to older projects which do not actually “exist” as bandproject/live projects anymore. All music had been released on Bandcamp, and the music of “Gazelle & the Bear” and “Lucid Kid” can be found on all other streaming platforms as well. I am currently working on the debut album of “Gazelle & the Bear”, which is also the only active project where I’m showing my own music at the moment. We’re releasing our second single “Portrait” on May 1st and will publish our album in the beginning of 2021.
