When the bullets took another course. The pedagogy of radical tenderness in contexts of war

  • Improper Walls 42 Reindorfgasse Wien, Wien, 1150 Austria (map)

May 29, 6–8 PM CET

Can radical tenderness be a way to respond to colonial violence? What happens when touch is decolonized and activates collectivity?

In this lecture, we will navigate through some moments of the performative work of Mexican trans artist Lia García (La Novia Sirena), which inaugurates new ways of thinking about affects and their political, aesthetic and educational potency in contexts that are at war with queer and trans existences.

The event takes place at Improper Walls, and the artist will join us online via Zoom.

Lia García (La Novia Sirena) was born in Mexico City, where she currently lives. She is a feminist apprentice, pedagogue, and performance artist. Her artistic projects have focused on weaving effective bridges between her own trans* experience and Mexico's social context. She has performed by occupying public space in multiple routes and wanderings.

This event is part of the Outskirts of Care public program, an exhibition by Frida Robles and Nisrine Boukhari currently on view until June 1.

Supported by 15. Bezirk, MA7 and BMKOES.
