ME, MASCULINE by Camilo Nuñez

ME, MASCULINE by Camilo Nuñez

Opening evening: April 27, 7 PM
Exhibition: April 28 - May 20

As Valentina Amoroso wrote, at the beginning there is something that makes you uncomfortable, and then the search begins. Stories that tell of the human condition. Looking in everyday life for the mirrors that need to be broken and put back together, to question what has been imposed on us and what we have built, sometimes consciously and sometimes without realizing it.

Camilo Nuñez is an Uruguayan artist whose focus is on figurative painting and who is strongly influenced by classical Greek and Roman mythology. Stories that depict aspects of the human condition, stories of gods created in the image of humans. These myths are about love and lust, envy and anger, violence and death. We can empathize with the characters because their feelings, desires, and struggles are our own. Camilo encounters mythology from a contemporary perspective, questioning the canons that have been upheld and naturalized throughout history.

Parallel to the internal process of questioning and challenging patriarchal structures and the normative paradigms that underlie the ideal of masculinity, the virtual world expanded in ways that Camilo had never explored before. This new form of expression allowed him to reinvent different narratives and open the doors of consecrated places for his digital sculptures to create new physicalities.

The art exhibition and related events that will take place at Improper Walls are dedicated to myths, the myth of the one and only masculinity. The selected artists and experts have a wide theoretical and diverse background that will put the theme in a different light.
