IMPROPER DOSE NO. 9

Finally, 2021!

-by Barbora Horská (Curator / Editor-in-chief of Improper Dose)

So much excitement for this new year as if the virus promised to disappear with the stroke of midnight. It’s the end of the first month and what we have instead is its new mutation, neverending lockdown, rich people cutting the line for a vaccination and Austria celebrating Holocaust Memorial Day by deporting fully integrated families with children who were born in the country and can’t even speak their parents’ mother tongue. By night. With dogs and heavy gear... Job well done humankind! Really.

At least the orange man is out of the White House. Which is a good news! Making life a bit tougher for comedians though...

And the rest of us? The more or less privileged majority is still trying to find our way through safety measures in order to maintain basic living conditions and sanity, while contemplating the principles of logic during a packed u-bahn ride on our way to prepare the exhibition for passersby only as our doors have to stay closed to prevent the spread of the virus. Seems like once again, there is no bigger enemy of the system than culture and educated children.

Anyway...we managed. To be completely fair, thanks to the financial support of the authorities as well. Balance. Dark side of the moon, bright side of Improper Cosmos. Which is a reference to my second favourite Pink Floyd album AND our new visual identity that we will slowly introduce in the following weeks on our social media channels and website.

FYI, Telegram is our new communication tool, so join our channel to stay updated. ‘Cause..even if we can’t disappear from the radar completely, we prefer to be spied on by just a limited amount of apps…

So who is the newest member of our family? Proudly introducing, Improper Sessions! A platform for new and rising Viennese musicians to present their music to the audience of Improper Walls and Vienna via livestream (and in person once lockdown ends). We were very happy to host our first session as a part of the Lena Kuzmich exhibition (more about Embrace Me inside of the Dose) with a performance by the amazing Tony Renaissance. In case you missed it, or just want to watch it again because it was sooo good, here is the link.

And rest of the ingredients? Insight into our activities – Embrace Me by Lena Kuzmich, ongoing IN*AUDIBLE & NON*VISUAL open call and how we are handling everything in VR. Also presenting Hart Magazine, AZE and Omar Khur Alanam.

See you soon, in one reality or another.
