IMPROPER DOSE NO. 17
Another Fucking Lockdown Edition
-by Barbora Horská (Curator / Editor-in-chief of Improper Dose)
Yes, Another Fucking Lockdown Edition.
But as it is also the last edition of the year, let's balance the scales with a bit of gratitude because, first of all, the whole concept of Improper Dose was born out of lockdown, and I'm very grateful for that—the Dose, not the pandemic of course.
For those who have not been with us since the beginning, right after we had to close our exhibition space for the first time in March 2020, we were thinking about how to stay connected with our audience. So we opened up on a more personal level than before and started sharing our individual passions. Introducing people and things that brought us joy and excitement, as well as the things that were driving us (rightfully) angry. A small dose of Improper news with a frequency that only a very first lockdown could handle.
And while since then we have changed its style a bit, the core of our approach is coming from the same desire to connect and support, better yet, co-create with you. And that leads me to one of my most treasured things from this year, the regular involvement of external contributors.
So a big THANK YOU, Andrea Z. Scharf, Lina Piskernik, and Pedro del Real for letting us feature your art on this platform and shape its identity! Especially considering you are doing it for the same honorarium as the rest of us in the team.
Nevertheless, staying on the grateful side of the thought process, a few grants, and our amazing Patrons allow us to keep going and bring you at least a few projects per year. So to all our Patrons, THANK YOU! Everything seems to be postponed again, and your end-of-the-year present won't be any different. But it is coming! Expect Improper delivery next month to show our gratitude materially at least from time to time.
However, this delay gives the 'not yet Patrons' some time to change their minds and join the list! See our Patreon page to see what a difference could even a small regular contribution make in our lives.
And last but not least, I'm very grateful for the Improper Walls team that (almost) every month, finds the time to put another edition together, delivered to your mailboxes with as much quality as our limited resources allow us to do.
So enjoy! (And if not, let us know!)
Much Love and Merry [insert any holiday you celebrate around this time]!
