»Embodied Structures«
Hybrid media art festival for the city
-by Urte Speirokaite (Strategy Manager / Event Coordinator at Improper Walls)
As we are heading towards the end of the challenging month of January, February's program gives us a glimpse of something exciting to come! It's the second year that CIVA, Vienna's media art festival, is taking place. This year (fingers crossed), not only in digital but also in the analog format! Its rich program of exhibitions, talks, and workshops with an ever-exciting lineup of artists will feed the hunger of one's interest in immersive virtual art.
And of course, not forget it being organized by incredible curator and cultural manager Eva Fischer, with whom we had a chance to chat in December on CIVA 2021 and 2022 festivals and the topic of care and human connection inside a digital world.
Check out talk with Eva Fischer following the link below and see you virtually or physically at the CIVA 2022!
Titled »Embodied Structures«, Vienna’s media art festival in 2022 devotes itself to the body and its multiple and ever-changing identities. At its main venues Belvedere 21, Stadtkino Wien, and Volkstheater as well as via its digital outlets, the nine-day festival offers a hybrid program of art exhibitions, talks, lectures, workshops, film screenings, and performances.
The second edition of the Vienna media art festival is scheduled to take place from February 18 to 26, 2022 and will be held for the first time as a physical event. CIVA is organized by the agency sound:frame and stands for Contemporary Immersive Virtual Art. Most of the program is accessible free of charge, prior registration is required for some of them due to limited space capacities.
To facilitate international networking, tours, talks, performances, and film programs will be broadcast live on the video streaming platform Twitch. The widely acclaimed cooperation with FM4 will also be continued: The joint interactive radio show will take place this year on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 7 p.m. and offers viewers on the festival’s Twitch channel the opportunity to control an installation located in the radio studio via chat commands. As in the previous year, the moderated CIVA chat group on Discord will serve as a virtual info point and thus the first point of contact for festival visitors from all over the world.
