Who is The Gurgels?
“My name is Camila Gurgel.
I am a Brazilian artist based in London.
The Gurgles were born around 6 years ago when I still lived in my hometown Brasília.
I kept them to myself until this year, when I decided to expose their lives in social media.”
What inspires you?
“The Gurgels are meant to be strange creatures and all of us at the same time.”
Do you change your identity in your art about yourself?
“They are part of my own personality and sometimes someone I feel I have never met.
I like to think they teach me how to take life less seriously. How comfortable they are with being always half naked and badly drawn, while talking about all sorts of subjects. And how they are not ashamed of being emotional or stupid.
I want people to relate and learn from them the same way I do. And feel as free as I do when i create each on of them.”
