Help CHANGES for Women to continue providing their services.

WHAT IS CHANGES FOR WOMEN AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

In Austria, unwanted pregnancies are not seen as an emergency situation and are therefore not covered by social insurance (ÖGK).

CHANGES for Women is an independent association made up of private individuals with the common goal of providing comprehensive and low-threshold information about the financing options for abortions in Austria, as well as helping women with unwanted pregnancies in emergency situations to finance the desired termination of their pregnancy.
Changes for Women supports anyone in need of an abortion in Austria - no matter where they’re from.

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT NOW MORE THAN EVER?

The cheapest option for an abortion in Austria is in the hospital at 320€, however, due to the Corona crisis, access to hospitals is restricted for pregnant women and the options for abortions can reach up to 1000€ in a private clinic. In addition, there are only a few hospitals in Austria where you can get an abortion! Two of which are in Vienna.

In Austria, an abortion is permitted up until the end of the 14th week of pregnancy. With medical indication, termination is also possible later - at least in theory. Depending on where they live, access is currently difficult for many of those affected: In Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Burgenland, abortion in public hospitals is not possible, and access is restricted in the other federal states. In some cases there is only one doctor per federal state who will carry out an abortion. Vienna is a big exception: there are at least two hospitals and four clinics where abortions are carried out.

In addition to the termination of pregnancy through a surgical intervention, there is the option of ending the pregnancy with the Mifegyne pill up until the 9th week of pregnancy. Currently, this medical discontinuation is also linked to a mandatory visit to the clinic. In times of emergency, legal provisions must be adapted to the situation. In order to follow government measures and thereby curb the further spread of SARS-CoV-2, it would be imperative to facilitate access to the Mifegyne pill. This is the only way to conserve hospital resources and protect pregnant women who fall into the at-risk group in this regard. That is why we agree with the request of ÖGF and Pro Choice Austria to authorize general practitioners to issue Mifegyne on prescription.

Since our services are funded entirely from donations, we are particularly dependent on your support during these times so that we may at least provide financial relief to those affected.
