Dialectics of Isolation I
Workshop by Bita Bell

Bita Bell leads a movement workshop based on explorations from her upcoming group choreography project, Dialectics of Isolation. The session places somatic experience at the center of curiosity and treats the body as a site where feelings and relationships converge, inviting participants to sense how presence shapes the quality of movement, timing, and tone. Participants will be guided through breathing practices, movement improvisations, touch and contact, as well as embodied writing and vocalization.
The workshop offers a communal entry into Closer Still through the activation of the body and its senses, allowing participants to move, breathe, and sound in ways that give form to nearness — and to leave with practical methods that can extend beyond the event. The focus rests on collective safety and accessibility, allowing the politics of longing to be approached through lived experience, and enabling the body to serve as a ground for understanding, solidarity, and care.

Bita Bell is a dance artist, writer, and composer with a BA in music composition and an MFA in dance, based in Vienna since 2020.
Her practices are based on the concepts of the body as archive, collective memories, visceral sensations, radical softness, and playful improvisations. She has performed with Pussy Riot, Jennifer Tee, and Esben Weile Kjaer, among others. She was an Artistic Research Fellow at THIRD DAS Graduate School in Amsterdam 2022-2024. She is a recipient of the 2023 Startstipendium for Music and Performing Arts and the 2024 DanceWeb Scholarship for the Impulstanz International Dance Festival.
Her solo performance The Sun Is Gone is co-produced by TanzQuartier Wien and it premieres in December 2025.
