Chromotop Schwendermarkt x IDENTITY PARADOX
Collaboration with Wiener Lichtblicke
at Schwendermarkt
We kindly invite you to an evening where the presented concepts offer a profound exploration of democracy and the use of public space through the lens of identity, communication, and empowerment. Identity, as described, is a dynamic and multifaceted construct, shaped not only by personal understanding but also by societal forces. It is often subject to segregation and violence, highlighting the need for democratic spaces that embrace and respect diverse identities. The notion of identity as a paradox in times of crisis underscores its potential as a unifying force, capable of fostering connections and freedoms.
Three artists who participated in the discursive and cross-cultural art residency in Užice are currently showcasing their works in the exhibition 'IDENTITY PARADOX' at Improper Walls, on view until November 1st. A selection of three works by Pille-Riin Jaik, Dalea Kovačec, and Dovilė Aleksaitė will be displayed in public space at the Schwendermarkt on October 13th as part of the Wiener Lichtblicke festival.
Collectively, these artistic endeavors provoke contemplation on the intricate interplay between identity, communication, and empowerment within a democratic framework. They advocate for inclusive public spaces that acknowledge the diversity of human experiences and offer platforms for healing, understanding, and transformation.
The Wiener Lichtblicke Festival will take place until October 31. The powerful language of light and art immerses public places evening after evening in political, uniquely designed art oases. There are 7 fixed and 10 pop-up chromotopes to discover, which open up further dialog spaces through light-graphic contributions and augmented reality objects by international artists from different genres.
