MONICA & CORDELIA
by Roberta Lazo Valenzuela

Opening hours :

By acknowledging the rich material that surrounds our daily routine, the artist composes a series of pieces that use objects as basis for sound production. The idea is to give life to the objects by turning its sound into an animal-like song. Both, the music and the intervened object, are based on the concept of personification and/or zoomorphism, meaning an attribution of living qualities (human and animal respectively) to an inanimate object. In this particular case, the objects are giving their own voice through music, which is later materialized in one single body or “being”.
“Monica” and “Cordelia” are sound-art pieces consisting of daily life objects combined with elements of musical instruments. They are thought to fulfill both their original purpose and the sound production. This double usability proposes a reality that integrates the possibility of music and sound into our daily lives: a quotidian that can always be music. The artwork is presented as an interactive sound installation and a performance by the artist.
