Performance by Qasi BABb Pink

TALK TALK TALK

“SHAME SHOULDN’T BE A SYMPTOM” is more than just an exhibition!

Starting this week, we will be first discussing intergenerational trauma and other family secrets in an Artist Talk with Peter Pflügler, while week after that we will take a sociological point of view on art, shame and sexual harassment in the academic world with artist and editor Mariana Rebola. These Artist Talks will be followed by Qasi BABb Pink’s immersive virtual reality performance, and as we dedicated this project to raising mental health awareness, we will finish by taking a closer look at professional help in Vienna with psychoanalyst Daniela Kammerer.

All events will take place online.

If you already have a question for our participants, you can write to noshame@improperwalls.com or just drop us a DM @improperwalls.

About artist
Based out of the Hudson Valley, New York, Qasi BABb Pink is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in chemical and lo-fi techniques within expanded cinema. Diverting from standards of technical perfection, they/she have spent the past few years destroying their past filmography in favor of a body of art revolving around performance and interactivity.

Embracing humor, play, and transparency, they don the mask of “antagonist” to combat the often esoteric and inaccessible nature of fine art. In the celebration of failure and decay, they chip away at the facade of authorship, asking the viewer to enter the role of collaborator. Exploring themes of identity, mental health, technology, and the grotesque, Qasi seeks to unravel preconceptions by use of the uncanny. Whether in the tactile or virtual sense, the inevitability of putrefaction in the corporeal and digital realms binds the experiential nature of her art to a deteriorating feedback loop.

As of February 2021 Qasi BABb Pink has formally began to learn Blender and Mozilla Hubs with plans to learn Unreal Engine soon. These free to use 3D technologies are a means towards building an interactive virtual 3D gallery, devoted to providing underrepresented artists (ie. BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, etc.) a space to explore and exhibit digital lo-fi art in 2021.
